Kelly Jackson is a visionary and trailblazer in the Human Resources profession. She is an inspirational leader that helps navigate significant organizational changes, employee acquisitions, and rapid employee growth, always striving for excellent workplace culture. Paired with Kelly’s extensive HR knowledge and experience is her devotion to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
Kelly was born in Michigan, grew up on the Northwest side of Detroit, and was educated in the Detroit Public School system. After high school, she paid her way through college while working a full-time job. By 23, Kelly began working in corporate America and devoted her career to growing the HR operations serving 60 employees to today’s 700 plus employees.
She built the HR department from its beginnings, including navigating the growth from 2 offices in Michigan and now 18 offices across Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky. In 2020, she had the privilege and honor of being invited to the OHM Advisors’ Shareholder’s group.
Kelly has continuously leveraged relationships to build credibility with the firm’s executive leadership and peers and has mentored, trained, and coached employees through the firm’s corporate professional development program. As a result, she has coached and trained numerous professionals over the past decade.
Through her leadership, OHM Advisors has received multiple workplace excellence awards from Crain’s, Zweig Group, Gallup, and CORP Magazine as a Diversity Focused Company winner of their Salute to Diversity Awards. Most recently recognized as one of the 2022 Crains exceptional Human Resources leaders.
Kelly is an avid reader of inspirational and leadership books and publications. Her article entitled “Unique and Innovative HR Programs: Doing More with Less” was published in industry-leading publications. In addition, she is a sought-after speaker who has given numerous HR presentations to various organizations throughout her career.
Kelly created and led OHM’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) program to ensure a continuously improving culture that supports, empowers, and respects diverse talent. This program included company-wide ongoing training of all employees in unconscious bias and DEI elevation, including employee panel discussions personally facilitated by Kelly and her team.
Through her efforts, she worked to have adopted the rigorous CEO Pledge for Diversity and Inclusion, signed by just 1300 (<.06 %) of the U.S.’s 195,000 CEOs. In addition, she spearheaded the OHM Advisors scholarship program annually, awarding $1000 to qualified women and minorities in STEM that now awards recipients a total of $20,000 annually. Her team’s efforts also included running an interactive internship program with inner-city minority students, enabling career exploration experiences for high schoolers.
Kelly regularly volunteers for advisory and leadership roles in helping advance the human resources profession and the broader community. In addition, she serves on several business and professional association boards throughout the Metro Detroit area.
